THE GREENWAYS SYSTEM
Alpharettas unique qualities of livability, small community, and environmental
harmony are being fostered by the development of a multi-purpose greenways system that
will connect and create open spaces and parks throughout the City. Four miles of concrete
and mulch paths are now open to the public. The 12 wide concrete paths offer
walking, jogging, inline blading and biking. Parking is provided on Preston Ridge Drive
near the YMCA and on North Point Parkway next to Home Life furniture store. Heated
restrooms are provided at the latter parking area. The greenway trails close at sundown.
You are advised to use the greenway the same as when you swim take a buddy for
greater safety. An additional 2.7 miles of concrete trail will be completed by January

ALPHARETTA COMMUNITY CENTER - 175 ROSWELL STREET
This state of the art community center opened in March of 1997. It features an
air-conditioned gymnasium with hard wood floor suitable for basketball and volleyball as
well as a variety of other recreational activities. The beautiful 2-acre central lawn
behind the center has a quarter-mile walking path. In the spacious lobby there is a ping
pong table for patrons to enjoy friendly games of table tennis and a lounge area where
parents can relax and socialize while their children participate in programs such as
rhythmic gymnastics, ballet, and basketball camp. In February of 1999, construction of the
second phase of the Community Center will begin. Phase two will include a multi-purpose
gymnasium that can be used for youth athletics as well as other special programs, a state
of the art gymnastics center, and a dance/fitness area that will house the existing ballet
classes as well as other dance and fitness programs. This project is scheduled for
completion in the summer of 1999 and operations should begin in the fall of 1999. For

WILLS PARK RECREATION CENTER - 11925 WILLS ROAD
Wills Park includes 110 acres of spectacular park amenities including an Olympic size
swimming pool (opens Memorial Day to Labor Day), numerous ball fields, a 9-hole frisbee
golf course, three picnic pavilions available for rental, restroom facilities, and two
large playgrounds including the Wacky World Playground, a community-built playground that
opened to the public in May of 1997. The Recreation Center offers a full-size gymnasium,
meeting rooms, and an expansive great room perfect for step aerobics. Also featured are
walking trails for leisurely strolls through the park. Activities are planned year round

WILLS PARK EQUESTRIAN CENTER - 11915 WILLS ROAD
Wills Park Equestrian Center offers a multi-use facility with a 150 ft. x 300 ft. covered
arena and two open rings. Ring A is 250 ft. x 150 ft.and Ring B is 300 ft. x 150 ft. Also,
there are 298 stalls with extra room for portable stalls, permanent restrooms with showers
and a concession stand with a covered pavilion.
Wills Park Equestrian Center hosts a variety of events throughout the calendar year.

NORTH PARK - 13450 COGBURN ROAD
North Park is a scenic 82 acre park that includes tennis courts, playground, picnic
pavilion, 4 adult softball fields, 1 youth softball field, 1 football field with
fieldhouse, and 1 soccer field. The park is also the home of the Senior Activity Center
and Arts and Crafts Building where the young at heart enjoy participating in a multitude
of programs including duplicate bridge, art lessons, and special interest classes. For

UNION HILL ROLLER HOCKEY PARK - 1590 UNION HILL ROAD
This premiere outdoor rink opened in the spring of 1997 to a community eager to fully
embrace the fast-paced sport of roller hockey. A second in-line hockey rink and cover
opened this year. The department offers competitive leagues for hockey enthusiasts of all

ALPHARETTA CRABAPPLE GOVERNMENT CENTER - 12624 BROADWELL ROAD
This new community/recreation center (formerly Crabapple First Baptist Church) is located
at the corners of Mid-Broadwell and Crabapple Roads in Alpharetta. Included are full
registration offices and a full gymnasium for future programming. There are numerous
meeting rooms for rental purposes and activity use. For more information call (678)

WEBB BRIDGE PARK - 4780 WEBB BRIDGE ROAD
The city purchased 60- plus acres and has constructed a community park to serve the needs
of this rapidly growing area. Phase one offers three regulation size youth soccer fields,
walking paths, passive areas, and parking in addition to the other infrastructure features
needed to make the park accessible.

The Recreation Staff at the Senior Activity Center at North Park plan a wide variety of
programs, classes, and trips designed for people of varying interests and backgrounds.
