3770 Pleasant Hill Road

Hours: Dawn to Dusk

Phone: (770) 623-2781

The W.P. Jones Park is located at 3770 Pleasant Hill Road, between Buford Highway, and Peachtree Industrial.

This City park offers shady picnic areas, one mile walking trail, decks overlooking the creek built by Boy Scouts, and a picnic pavilion for public rental in a magnificent setting surrounded by tall hardwoods and Georgia pines.

A large play area, a restored authentic Norfolk-Southern Railway train caboose, a nature trail, and restrooms offers any park visitor a full days enjoyment. The Play area also offers play equipment for the physically challenged.

The old "depot" was previously in downtown Duluth on the north side of West Lawrenceville Street and was used as a train depot, as it was meant to be. The depot was donated to the City and relocated to the City Park named after former Mayor W.P. "Willie" Jones and was converted to a recreation center where programs such as dance, yoga and other indoor activities are held during the year. The depot has only changed in appearance by repainting and re-roofing, but with the same type clay shingles as previously on the building.

The Depot

Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Phone: (770) 623-2781

The Depot houses all the City recreation programs throughout the year, and the office of the Parks and Recreation Department.

The Depot is of prime importance in Duluth history; it was at the dedication of the new railroad depot at Howell's Cross Roads in 1871 that the name of the community was changed to Duluth. It was around the railroad that the town really began to grow. At one point there were two depots in Duluth - the passenger depot being across the street in front of Parsons (original location on Main Street in Downtown Duluth) and the freight depot where the present building stands. The freight depot was later torn down and the passenger depot moved across the road on rollers. The depot no longer is used and was purchased by Scott Hudgens, who relocated it and donated it to the City.

Tennis Complex

Hours: 7 a.m. - 11 p.m.

Phone: (770) 623-2781

Located on Pleasant Hill Road adjacent to the W.P. Jones Park Depot. This remodeled facility has four lighted tennis courts, restroom facility, and ample parking. A paved trail leads from the tennis courts to the park playground, and park facilities.
