The East Point Velodrome
Located in East Point, Georgia, the track is officially known as the Dick Lane
Velodrome. It was named after Richard G. Lane, the former State Rep. and director of Parks
& Recreation for the city of East Point whose idea it was to build the Velodrome.
Age - finished in 1977; Extensive renovations completed the winter of 1995-1996!
Surface - Concrete
Length - 323.13 meters (1/5 mile)
Banking - 34º turns
Capacity - seating for 700; standing room for 1,500+
As a result of the Olympics coming to Atlanta in 1996, the City of
East Point managed to obtain funding for rather extensive renovations to the facility. The
entire track was resurfaced in order to smooth out some rough spots that had developed
over the years. A small warm up track has been added to the infield area. EVERY Velodrome
should have one of these! The locker/restroom facilities have been completely redone and
are now wheelchair accessible. Even the bridge that crosses the little creek down the
center of the track has been replaced!
