The site has a rich variety of small wild animals, mature hardwoods and pines, unique shrubbery and herbaceous plants, a running creek, and a remnant of an old dam that once powered a corn mill. Existing site improvements include nature trails, boardwalk, pedestrian bridges, picnic areas, wetlands pavilion, parking lot, several historically interesting buildings that serve as nature center/welcome center, a chapel, museum and programming spaces. The Summerour House, once renovated, will house the AMNP administrative office, exhibit areas and classrooms. Both the Tenant Museum and Summerour House, which are not county properties, were relocated to the site and renovated by the AMNP. The site is surrounded by the Atlanta-Fulton County Water Resources Plant and Autry Mill Road on the east, residential development on the west and north, and Old Alabama Road on the south.

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is an environmental education facility dedicated to aiding visitors in Natural History Education. It is open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $1.00 for adults and $.50 for young people.
The book store and gift shop offer a wide variety of items related to natural science. Birdseed is sold at the center throughout the year.

Located in the heart of Sandy Springs, the Sandy Srings Historic Site is the home of the natural springs for which the community was named. Also at this three acre site is the Williams-Payne House Museam, an 1870's 'plain style' farmhouse, an authentic period milkhouse, well shelter, and privy. The grounds include a native Georgia garden, an historic teaching garden and a bog garden with a wooden boardwalk. The site is operated by the Sandy Springs Historic Community Foundation, a non-profit organization. In addition to tours of the Williams-Payne House, programs include heritage lectures, storytelling festivals and the Sandy Springs Fall Fesitval. The brick terrace, garden room, and large gazebo make a lovely setting for weddings and parties.

The public park is open from dawn until dusk daily, and tours of the Williams-Payne House are available by appointment only.
