In keeping with their motto, "Knowledge Through Beauty," Oglethorpe University Museum has brought Atlantans, as well as visitors from throughout the world, artworks which have both informed and exhilarated them. Whether Buddhas from around the world, paintings by Russian master Nicholas Roerich, or sculptures of American master Duane Hanson, it is their intention that the artworks shown provide a meaningful experience for viewers, lifting their spirits and satisfying their souls.

In addition to the Museum's impressive collection of fine art, three originally conceived and curated exhibitions are held each year, featuring artwork which is international, representational, often figurative and spiritual in nature. Recent exhibitions have garnered national media attention and brought international art experts from around the world to lecture on campus.

They are also the first museum in the Atlanta area to offer both free admission and ample free parking for their visitors -- making the experience of culture through the arts open to everyone who seeks to share in it with them.

The Oglethorpe University Museum, occupying the entire third floor of the Philip Weltner Library, opened in the spring of 1993 after extensive renovations of the previous Oglethorpe University Art Gallery (1984-1992). The Museum, covering 7,000 square feet, has a comfortable, intimate environment created by two spacious galleries, the Museum Gift Shop, and offices. It is considered an important cultural addition to Atlanta's growing art scene, drawing thousands of visitors each year.
