The Flint Creek Water Park is one of eight parks in the Pat Harrison Waterway District which stretches throughout South Mississippi. There is 1,900 total acres inside the park boundaries with a 650-acre lake included. The park administers a water slide area appropriately named “Water Town” which is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day of each year. Recently the park opened eight new cabins, thus increasing its total to 40 cabins. The park also maintains 127 Class A campsites, 40 Primitive campsites, and 131 RV hookups. Marina facilities, excellent fishing, boating and a large picnic area with beaches are available on the lake, which is considered one of the top water parks in the state. The Flint Creek Water Park also hosts an annual 4th of July fireworks show and annual Haunted Forest. Park Manger Shane Rogers conservatively estimates that at least 600,000 visitors come to the water park each year. There are numerous lakes in the county from 50-150 acres that abound in bass, crappie and bream.

Other Creeks and Wildlife Areas

Red Creek and Black Creek offer excellent day and overnight float trips, and both creeks are designated Wild and Scenic Rivers. The U.S. Forest Service maintains landings and hiking trails on Black Creek. There are two game reserves in Stone County: Red Creek and Biloxi Creek. Deer, turkey, quail, squirrel, and rabbit hunting abound throughout the county on a seasonal basis. The Pascagoula Game and Wildlife Management Area is located just 30 miles from Wiggins. With its oxbow lakes and cypress swamps, it is one of the most beautiful and breath-taking areas in the South. A portion of the DeSoto National Forest is also located in Stone County. The forest offers a controlled game reserve for hunting and numerous nature trails. Also, fifteen minutes north of Wiggins is the Paul B. Johnson State Park, which offers cabins, camping sites, swimming, fishing, boating, and picnicking.

Sports, Parks, and Playgrounds

Wiggins and Stone County operate a year-round sports program with seasonal offerings in softball, baseball, soccer, basketball, little league football and other activities. Many of the county’s youth sporting events are conducted at Hood Field, a multi-plex of baseball, softball, and soccer fields. The Blaylock Park, in downtown Wiggins, offers a walking-jogging park, lighted tennis courts, exercise and playground equipment, and two open pavilions. The walking track is eight feet wide and a quarter mile long. The track is well lighted for nightwalkers. The park was built in large part by contributions from area merchants and citizens.

Also, professional spectator sports such as championship boxing, professional ice hockey, and professional football are nearby in New Orleans, Biloxi, and Mobile.

Pine Burr Country Club

The Pine Burr Country Club offers golf, tennis, swimming, and fishing to its members and guests. An 18-hole golf course is open to the public for daily green fees, and is considered one of the top courses in South Mississippi. The facility also offers a driving range, golf lessons, club repair, and a beautiful clubhouse for special occasions.
