Overview

Joe Wheeler State Park, a place of natural beauty and natural fun. Feel the serenity of gliding across the water powered only by the wind. Or motor across the lake, dock your boat next to the Resort Lodge and join us for a sumptuous meal in luxury surroundings. Enjoy your early morning in a rustic cabin. Or sip that first cup of coffee by a campfire. Or open a thermos after you've found the perfect spot for the day's fishing. Wake up with a round of golf, a tennis match, or laps in the swimming pool. Or simply sun the morning away. Stroll along the landscaped banks of Wheeler Lake. You can find all this, and more, at Joe Wheeler State Park.

General Joe Wheeler was born September 1836 and died January 1906. He graduated from West Point at nineteen years of age. He was in three wars, The War between the States, the Spanish War, and the occupancy of the Philippines. Elected to Congress from Alabama, serving in that capacity for eighteen years. Wheeler's plantation encompasses almost 1500 acres between Courtland and Decatur, Alabama.
